There is some pain that is not normal.

Many woman are under the false assumption that pelvic pain or incontinence should be expected after having a baby or with age. This is simply not true.

Not only can problems with your pelvis or pelvic floor be annoying themselves, they can also lead to weakness throughout your body.

The Women’s Health Rehabilitation Program can help. Program therapists are trained in addressing concerns specific to women. These issues include:

  • Incontinence
  • Swelling (lymphedema) from breast cancer treatments
  • Pregnancy or post-partum pain
  • Osteoporosis

The following symptoms are abnormal for women at any time. Contact the SIH-RIC Women’s Health Rehabilitation program if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Loss of urine when you cough, sneeze, laugh or during exercise
  • Pain in the groin, lower abdominal muscles, vaginal or rectal areas, tailbone, buttocks or thighs
  • Pelvic pain related to movements or positioning, such as getting in and out of your car
  • Difficulty feeling muscles around the vagina or rectum when you try to squeeze, tighten or contract them
  • A bulging sensation in your vagina or rectum that was not there before childbirth
  • Loss of bowel control
  • Pain with urination or defecation.
  • Pelvic or abdominal pain during intercourse
