We are proud to be one of the first hospitals in Southern Illinois to use robotic-assisted surgery. This has helped our patients get back to their lives safely and quickly, after surgery.

When you make an appointment with one of our surgeons, you might learn more about the

da Vinci System. This robotic-assisted device is a sophisticated surgical platform designed to ease complex procedures using a minimally invasive approach. Together, da Vinci technology allows surgeons to perform complex procedures through just a few tiny incisions. As a result, patients may get back to their lives faster without the usual recovery following major surgery.

We’ve recently purchased the latest version of the da Vinci System, called XI Surgical System. This is the fourth-generation of the technology, which is used in complex surgeries in the areas of colorectal, general, gynecologic and urologic surgery. Patients who have surgery with XI say they don’t have pain (no opioids are needed to recover) and are able to leave the hospital the same day of the surgery.

Here’s a look at the services we offer by using the da Vinci System:

  • Gynecological
  • Hysterectomy
  • Ovary/Fallopian Tube Removal
  • Pelvic Floor Prolapse
  • Pelvic Pain
  • Endometriosis
  • Urological
  • Prostate Removal
  • Kidney Removal (Full and Partial)
  • Urinary Tract Conditions
  • Gall bladder removal
  • Hernia repair

Exploring the benefits of robotic-assisted surgery

The da Vinci System raises the standard of care for complex surgeries. This translates into numerous potential patient benefits compared to open surgery, including:

  • Less pain
  • Less scarring
  • Reduced recovery times
  • Less risk of infection
  • Reduced trauma to the body
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Less blood loss

The da Vinci System consists of an ergonomic surgeon’s console, a patient-side cart with four interactive robotic arms, a 3D HD vision system and miniaturized wristed instruments. Powered by state-of-the-art technology, the da Vinci System is designed to scale, filter and seamlessly translate the surgeon’s hand movements into more precise movements of the instrument tips.

The da Vinci System is a remarkable improvement over conventional laparoscopy, in which the surgeon operates while standing and uses hand-held, long-shafted instruments that can’t bend or rotate. With conventional laparoscopy, the surgeon must look up and away from the instruments to a nearby 2D video monitor to see an image of the target anatomy.
