Chuck Wright—Life After Stroke

Ischemic Stroke Success Story

Chuck considers himself lucky that he and his wife Jeanne were in Carbondale when he exhibited signs of a stroke. “He had gotten to the point that he could not communicate and it was very frightening,” said Jeanne. He was only minutes away from the newly established Stroke Center at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

The team worked quickly to make a diagnosis. Chuck suffered an acute ischemic stroke, caused by an interruption of blood flow to the brain. Time is critical, as the medical team must intervene within 3 hours of the onset of symptoms.

Neurologist and Medical Director of the Center, Dr. Bhargava Trivedi, is specially trained to administer tPA, a clot-busting drug. Restoring blood flow to the brain, tPA improves chances for recovery by up to 70 percent.

Jeanne noted, “It was amazing. We feel blessed to have a place like Memorial’s Stroke Center.”
