Most of us have health questions we are reluctant to ask our doctor about. Maybe it feels too personal. Maybe it seems embarrassing. Maybe you think your problem is just a nuisance that comes with being a woman. But when it comes to your health and wellness — no question should be off-limits.

SIH Women’s Health Rehabilitation can help women of any age — pregnant or not — who are experiencing symptoms such as:

  • Bladder pain
  • Bowel incontinence
  • Cancer-related fatigue
  • Painful sexual intercourse
  • Pelvic pain or low back pain
  • Popping and clicking joints
  • Scar pain or tightness
  • Swelling in the arm or chest
  • Urinary incontinence

Physical therapy and exercise are noninvasive, non-surgical ways to relieve pain and promote a normal, active life. Here is a sampling of what we offer:

Breast cancer

Cancer treatment changes your body. Whether you are ready to celebrate being cancer-free or you’re undergoing treatment, you may also be dealing with uncomfortable side effects. This could be anything from joint stiffness, swelling in your upper or lower body or muscle weakness. Our physical therapists will work with you one-on-one to help you get your strength back.

Pregnancy and postpartum

Don’t expect pain just because you’re expecting. Changes in your body’s mechanical structure during pregnancy and childbirth can cause throbbing pain in the back, pelvis or hips. We’ve helped moms across Southern Illinois deal with this discomfort and we’re ready to help you, too.

Strengthening pelvic floor muscles

Muscles in the pelvic floor can weaken over time and cause symptoms that might be painful or annoying. Your pelvic floor muscles are responsible for bowel and bladder control, along with making sure sexual intercourse isn’t painful. We can help you strengthen your muscles through a variety of exercises — many of which you can try at home.

Osteoporosis

Aching joints and fragile bones don’t have to be your first symptoms of aging. Treatments for osteoporosis and osteoarthritis can help prevent stiffness and bone loss that can occur as you grow older. If you’re young at heart, we want your hands and knees to feel that way, too.
