About Provider

Mary Kathleen Chapman, a dedicated Family Nurse Practitioner, brings her expertise in Palliative Medicine to the SIH affiliated hospitals and the SIH Cancer Institute, where she offers compassionate care and support to patients facing serious illness.

With a special interest in Palliative Medicine, Mary's career trajectory was influenced by her personal experiences and a desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Having witnessed the challenges of serious illness firsthand, particularly during her mother's battle with cancer, Mary felt compelled to provide the support and comfort she wished her family had received. Her journey led her to specialize in Palliative Medicine, where she strives to ensure that patients never feel alone in their healthcare journey.

A native of Southern Illinois, Mary has also lived in other areas but finds solace and fulfillment in her roots. She is a proud mother of two sons, Pierce and Lucas, and enjoys spending her free time hiking, horseback riding, and taking her dog Charlie for walks.

Patients under Mary's care can expect a down-to-earth approach characterized by honesty, compassion, and a genuine openness to different perspectives. With a commitment to fostering meaningful connections, Mary ensures that patients feel heard, valued, and supported throughout their healthcare journey.

Since joining SIH in 2017, Mary has become an integral part of the healthcare community, providing invaluable support to patients and their families. She appreciates the natural beauty of Southern Illinois, particularly its parks and local lakes, which offer respite and tranquility amidst the demands of her profession.

For Mary, the most rewarding aspect of her job is the opportunity to connect with others on a profound level and make a tangible difference in their lives. By offering compassionate care and unwavering support, Mary strives to empower her patients and bring comfort and relief during challenging times.
