The Camp BETA – Youth Diabetes Fund supports a free overnight camp for children ages 9 to 15 who have Type 1 diabetes. Children participate in camp at SIU Touch of Nature where they can enjoy activities such as horseback riding, fishing and zip-lining. SIH registered nurses and dieticians are on hand to make sure the children are staying safe while they have fun.

Camp BETA stands for Believe in Yourself, Empower Yourself, Talk, Act; through this overview, youth can take control of their journeys with diabetes without limiting their participation in fun and fulfilling opportunities. For more information, please visit www.hsidn.org/camp-beta.

Camp BETA is a collaboration among Southern Illinois Healthcare, the Diabetes Today Resource team, the SIU Touch of Nature Environmental Center, and the SIU Dietetic Internship program with sponsorship from civic organizations, private companies, families, individuals, and many more. It’s easy to see how the strengths of so many come together each year for the benefit of the youth in our community with Type 1 Diabetes.
