Neurosurgery Awareness Month: Every Patient. One Purpose.
Have you ever felt that shooting pain down your leg and wondered what caused it? Is it serious? Did you blow out a disc in your back? These are all common concerns—and often the reason you may be referred to neurosurgery.
August is Neurosurgery Awareness Month, led by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). This year's theme, "Every Patient. One Purpose." reflects our shared commitment to putting patients first, always.
As a Neurosurgery Navigator at the SIH Brain and Spine Institute, I coordinate care for patients with conditions affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system. This can include brain tumors, back and neck problems, nerve pain, and stroke. My goal is not only to help treat these conditions but also to help you live a healthier, fuller life.
Every patient's journey is unique. Whether you need surgery or ongoing care, we are here to guide and support you every step of the way. Your story matters, and your trust means everything to us.
At SIH, neurosurgery is truly a team effort. Surgeons, nurses, therapists, medical assistants, and hospital staff all play important roles in your care. Together, we focus on your safety, comfort, and recovery.
We also use the latest tools and research to improve patient outcomes. Advances in technology help us perform safer procedures and support faster healing. Still, the most important part of our work is listening to you, answering your questions, and helping you understand your options.
This month, we celebrate the strength of our patients and the dedication of the SIH teams who care for them every day.

Seeing a neurosurgeon requires a referral from your primary care physician or advanced practice provider (APP).
