SIH Scholarship Programs

The SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale Auxiliary is now accepting applications for its annual Scholarship Program. This program offers scholarships to individuals who are pursuing a degree and career in a healthcare-related field.

This scholarship is for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters.

Scholarship parameters:

• Any individual accepted into or currently enrolled in a healthcare-related program is eligible. Consideration is limited to students accepted into a healthcare-related program, where courses are restricted to student candidates for the degree or certification. For example, pre-nursing, pre-medical, and pre-pharmacy applicants are not eligible until they are accepted into nursing programs, medical schools, physical therapy programs, etc.
• Applicants must reside in Illinois.
• The school attended does not need to be in Illinois, but it must be accredited or recognized as an approved program by the appropriate agencies.
• Priority is given to MHC employees and their families, as well as SIH employees and their families. 
• Students with less than one academic year remaining until graduation are not eligible for a new scholarship.
• To be competitive, a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4-point scale or a GPA of 4.5 or higher on a 5-point scale is required. 
• Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, financial needs, and the availability of funds for the academic year. (4 quarters or 2 semesters.)
• Current scholarship recipients should reapply each year with updated transcripts. Renewal eligibility will be based on continued excellent academic performance and ongoing enrollment in the healthcare-related program. the scholarship may be renewed for up to four years, with reapplication required each year.

The medical staff of SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale is pleased to announce the offering of Medical Student Scholarships.  The scholarship amount is undecided at this time.  The scholarship has the following criteria:  

• You must be a current (2025-2026) first or second year medical student in good standing.
• You must have graduated from an Illinois high school located in one of the following counties:  Alexander, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Massac, Monroe, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, St. Clair, Union, Washington, White and Williamson.
• You must demonstrate financial need.

To apply:

• Fill out the Scholarship Application Form
• Explain the reason you feel you have financial need or hardship including, but not limited to, undergraduate debt load, the need to work during your undergraduate education and the number of hours you worked per week, as well as any special or extenuating circumstances
• Turn in the attached form and a copy of your latest FASFA and Financial Aid Award for the current year to:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Program (BSN): SIH will offer assistance for a candidate’s final 2 years or less of their BSN program. When a candidate is entering their last one to two years of their BSN program, they are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The amount of scholarship assistance will be based upon the amount of their BSN program and the amount deducted from tuition assistance received.

Master’s degree in Nursing Program (MSN): SIH will offer assistance for an employee’s final 2 years or less of their MSN program. When an employee is entering their last one to two years of their MSN program, they are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Employees are also eligible to utilize the SIH Tuition Assistance program and also receive scholarship assistance. Each semester, the employee will turn in their tuition statement and book fees to the Employment department. They will turn in the SIH tuition assistance form to their designated Human Resources department. The amount of scholarship assistance will be based upon the amount of their MSN program and the amount deducted from tuition assistance received.

**The amount of each scholarship is dependent upon the cost of the educational program. The amount of funding available in the SIH Scholarship fund.
**The length of the scholarship agreement is dependent upon the amount awarded to the employee.

In addition to the ongoing nursing and physical therapy scholarships, SIH is pleased offer scholarships in the following hard-to-fill areas:

• Registered Nurse (RN)
• Surgical Technician
• Health Information Management
• Pharmacist
• Occupational Therapist
• Medical Laboratory Technician
• Medical Laboratory Scientist
• Respiratory Therapist
• Radiologic Technician
