We define job shadowing as an observation-only experience that an individual arranges on their own time and does not fulfill program requirements or involve hands-on patient care. Our job shadow opportunities typically last 1-7 days but can be extended. This is a great way to learn about various careers and to see first-hand what a typical day can be like.
Job Shadowing FAQs
What type of Job Shadowing opportunities are available at SIH?
To get started, you must complete the Job Shadow Application. If you have identified and talked with a specific SIH employee that you'd like to observe, please specify that in your application. For individuals who are interested in a particular career, but don't have a specific SIH employee in mind - we can help create a job shadow opportunity for you.
Please note: The application process should take around 15 minutes to complete. You will have the opportunity to save your work and return later to complete the application if needed. During the online application, you will complete the required student training and be required to upload the following documents (photos of the documentation are acceptable):
Flu vaccination if rotating between September 1 - March 31
Annual two-step TB skin test or QuantiFERON-TB Gold blood test
Headshot photo of yourself with a blank wall background
Resume or CV (optional)
Proof of health insurance
The flu vaccine may not be available during certain months of the year. Please continue with the application process, get the vaccine once it's available, and email students@sih.net proof of your flu vaccination before to your clinical start date.
Our preference is to have individuals submit a completed application which includes documentation of COVID-19 vaccination, flu vaccination (September 1 - March 31), and annual TB test. It is best to wait until you have collected this documentation prior to starting the application. If you are unable to submit this documentation during the application, you can email them to students@sih.net. All requirements must be met prior to your job shadow experience.
I've completed the Job Shadowing Application and submitted my required documentation, now what?
A member of our SIH team will be emailing you to finalize your application and help coordinate your job shadowing experience. All students must be processed through our human resources department and have their SIH Job Shadowing Badge prior to starting their experience.
