Neurodiagnostic Testing

You don’t have to travel far for advanced neurodiagnostic testing and imaging. At the SIH Brain & Spine Institute, our providers use modern tools and technology—such as the region’s first 3T MRI and image-guided surgery system—that are often only found at large academic medical centers. These resources allow us to provide accurate diagnoses and perform intricate, minimally invasive procedures for conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, tumors, and spinal disorders.

Our Diagnostic Capabilities

• 3T MRI - Located at SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, the 3T MRI is the most powerful magnet available for clinical use. It produces sharper, high-quality images for a more confident diagnosis. This advanced scanner also has more space, making the experience more comfortable and less confining for patients.
• Electroencephalogram (EEG) - An EEG is a safe, non-invasive test that measures the brain’s electrical activity through small electrodes placed on the scalp. SIH offers EEG testing at all three hospitals for inpatients, outpatients, and intraoperative monitoring during surgery. EEG can help diagnose epilepsy, migraines, strokes, and spinal stenosis.
