"Our job is to help patients understand what to look for in case if they suspect a patient having cardiac arrest," Dr. Mirza said. The interventional cardiologist with SIH Prairie Heart Institute recently spoke with a class of men and women in Carbondale. They were part of the SIH Second Act program. 

Don Arnold, II, MD, has been a urologist for nearly 20 years. For the past decade he's been treating Southern Illinoisans at SIH. "Stone Season" is now underway and runs through October. 

SIH is pleased to introduce John Antes of St. Louis as its new president and CEO effective Dec. 12, 2022. Antes, a seasoned health care executive with nearly 30 years of experience, presently serves as president of Missouri Baptist Medical Center. Antes will succeed SIH President and CEO Rex Budde.

SIH is now able to offer improved services for pediatric patients. Leaders say no other clinic in Southern Illinois has as much dedicated space to those services.

The ongoing partnership between SIU and SIH to address the shortage of nurses has advanced to a new level with the announcement that SIH is creating a scholarship program for SIU's accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
